Development of multiplexed nucleic acid methods for the detection and forensic identification of pathogens in water, food, soil, and air (microarrays), engineering automated systems for large volume concentration of microbial contaminants in water, investigation of next-generation, novel reagents to replace PCR, development of novel cell culture systems for difficult to impossible cultivation of some pathogens such as noroviruses.
