S Kamakshi Sundaram

Expertise

S. K. Sundaram, Ph.D. is a Chief Materials Scientist at PNNL, working here since 1994. He has over 20 years of scientific, technical, and managerial experience. He has made major contributions in the areas of millimeter wave diagnostics technology, materials and sensors for energy conversion, integrated infrared photonics, multiscale processing, and nanotoxicity. Under the Environmental Biomarker Initiative (EBI), he is leading a team of scientists in developing ATR-FTIR-based tool for rapid-screening of live cells for their viability on exposure to nanoparticles. He has given over 100 technical presentations, contributed to 11 books, published over 75 peer-reviewed publications, mentored over 40 students, organized several national and international symposia, and won numerous honors, including three R&D 100 awards (2001, 2006, and 2008). He is a fellow of the American Ceramic Society and American Association of Advancement of Sciences, Society of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (UK), and Society of Glass Technology (UK). He has held visiting appointments at Harvard, MIT, and Princeton.
