Tao Liu
Expertise
Dr. Liu's research focuses on the development and application of high-throughput mass spectrometry-based proteomics approaches for quantifying the dynamic changes in protein abundances in biological systems. His areas of expertise include liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry based quantitative proteomics, stable isotope and chemical labeling, protein biomarker discovery using tissue and biofluids, and biomarker pre-clinical validation using targeted quantitative proteomics technologies, e.g., multiple reaction monitoring. Current applications include protein biomarker discovery for early detection of breast cancer using breast proximal fluids (such as nipple aspirate fluid and tumor interstitial fluid) and candidate biomarker validation in blood plasma as well as top-down characterization of intact plasma peptidome components and their modifications for discovering novel peptide biomarkers.
